Adhir Ranjan Chowdhury Resigns From WB Pradesh Congress Committee

Former Congress party leader in Lok Sabha, Adhir Ranjan Chowdhury has resigned from the chair of Congress West Bengal unit. The announcement came after the Congress’ state unit meeting on Friday afternoon. The purpose of the meeting was to review the reasons behind the disheartening performance of party in the state in recently concluded general elections.

Chowdhary has himself confirmed his resignation, saying that he was only a President of party’s state unit.

Adhir Ranjan Talked about the reasons behind his then appointment as state president and resignation. He said, “Since the time Mallikarjun Kharge became the Congress’ National President, there was no state President. Now when the full-time President will be appointed you will all come to know that.”

However, the grand old party has not confirmed whether it has accepted the resignation. There ha been no official comments.

He made this declaration, incidentally, the day after P Chidambaram visited the state secretariat Nabanna and spoke with Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee. The meeting lasted 35 minutes.  P Chidambaram is a former Union finance minister and member of the Rajya Sabha for the Congress,

Yusuf Pathan, a celebrity candidate for the Trinamool Congress and a former member of the Indian cricket team, defeated Chowdhury, a five-term party member of the Lok Sabha from the Baharampur constituency in Murshidabad District.

Chowdhury’s disagreements with the party hierarchy have been evident for a while regarding the Congress’s association with the Trinamool.

Chowdhury had consistently expressed his beliefs on an electoral alliance with the Left Front, led by the CPI(M). Indeed, his disagreements with Kharge also emerged during the Lok Sabha elections.

After he announced his resignation, rumours about who might succeed him began to circulate.

The inside sources revealed that the only congress MP from the state, Isha Khan Chowdhury, is one of the frontrunners for the chair.
