Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Tuesday underscored the importance of trust in international relations, stating that mutual trust is the most important strategic asset in today’s interconnected world. He made the remarks during the Outreach Session titled ‘Forging New Partnerships and Rebuilding International Solidarity’ at the G7 Summit in Evian, France.
According to the Ministry of External Affairs (MEA), the Prime Minister highlighted that energy, food, health, cyber and economic security are deeply interconnected, making international partnerships indispensable for global progress and prosperity.
Taking to X, PM Modi posted, “Shared my thoughts at the Outreach Session on ‘Forging New Partnerships and Rebuilding International Solidarity’ at the G7 Summit in Evian. In a world that is getting more interconnected and interdependent than ever before, this subject becomes all the more vital. But, partnerships can succeed only when they are founded on trust.”

The Prime Minister observed that trade and technology are increasingly being used to serve narrow interests. He said this trend is contributing to a growing trust deficit in international affairs.
“Mutual trust is the most important strategic asset today. But, sadly, today, the world does not suffer from a shortage of resources; it suffers from a shortage of trust. And the future of our partnerships depends on rebuilding this trust,” he said.
Referring to India’s civilisational philosophy of ‘Vasudhaiva Kutumbakam’ or ‘the world as one family’, PM Modi said the country’s development model remains rooted in people-centric aspirations. He added that the principle of “humanity first” continues to guide India’s approach.
The Prime Minister said India’s global initiatives are guided by this philosophy. He cited the International Solar Alliance, Coalition for Disaster Resilient Infrastructure, Global Biofuels Alliance, Mission LiFE and ‘Ek Ped Maa Ke Naam’ as key examples.
PM Modi highlighted India’s role as a first responder during natural disasters. He cited assistance provided to countries such as Sri Lanka, Afghanistan, Mozambique and Jamaica.
Emphasising the aspirations of the Global South, PM Modi said nations must move beyond the donor-recipient framework.
“We must move beyond the donor-recipient mindset and work as equal partners! We must walk together and not merely alongside one another. Partnerships must be linked to dignity, not dependency,” Prime Minister Modi noted.
The Prime Minister also outlined India’s development cooperation in Africa. He highlighted initiatives in training, capacity building, agriculture, water resources and energy. He said these efforts aim to strengthen local capabilities and address global challenges.
