Afghanistan Claims Airstrikes On Pakistani Military Targets As Border Tensions Escalate

As tensions continue to escalate between Pakistan and Afghanistan, Kabul has claimed that its Air Force carried out strikes targeting Pakistani military facilities in Islamabad, Nowshera, Jamrud and Abbottabad.

Taliban Deputy Spokesman Hamdullah Fitrat said, “The Air Force affiliated with the National Ministry of Defence launched airstrikes today around 11 AM, targeting a military camp near the city of Faizabad in Islamabad, Pakistan, as well as an army barracks in Nowshera, and a military site in Jamrud.”

Deputy Spokesman Fitrat further explained, “These airstrikes were carried out successfully, targeting important military positions, centres, and installations of the Pakistani army there. These attacks were carried out in response to the airstrikes carried out by the Pakistani military in Kabul, Kandahar, and Paktia last night.”

He also asserted that key defence infrastructure and positions were successfully hit during the mission.

Border Clashes and Military Claims

Earlier, Afghanistan’s Ministry of National Defence reported that its forces had carried out coordinated retaliatory action along the Pakistan-Afghanistan border.

The ministry claimed that at least 55 Pakistani soldiers were killed during the clashes. It also stated that two bases and 19 posts were seized.

Officials said the confrontation reportedly continued for around four hours. They added that two military bases and multiple posts were destroyed, while Pakistani troops vacated several additional positions.

Afghan authorities further claimed, “In these operations, dozens of light and heavy weapons, ammunition, and military supplies were seized by Afghan forces. Additionally, an enemy tank was destroyed, and a large military transport vehicle was captured.”

Afghanistan also confirmed casualties on its side, stating that eight soldiers lost their lives and 11 others sustained injuries.

In a separate incident, 13 civilians were reportedly wounded in a missile strike on a refugee camp in Nangarhar province. The injured included women and children.

On Thursday, Pakistan launched ‘Operation Ghazab lil-Haq’. The move was described as a response to what it termed unprovoked cross-border firing by Afghan forces.

Media reports indicated that the Pakistan Air Force conducted airstrikes aimed at military targets in Kabul, Kandahar and Paktia.

The recent exchanges signify a marked escalation along the Durand Line, heightening fears of further instability in the border region.
