Prime Minister Narendra Modi revived the popular ‘Melodi’ trend during his official visit to Italy after gifting Italian Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni a packet of Melody toffees.
The light-hearted gesture quickly drew attention online and once again highlighted the friendly rapport between the two leaders.
Prime Minister Meloni shared the moment on Instagram, posting a video in which both leaders laughed while discussing the gift.
Referring to the toffee packet, Meloni said PM Modi had brought a ‘very, very good toffee — Melody’. She later thanked the Indian Prime Minister for the gift in her caption.
The exchange revived the viral ‘Melodi’ trend, a combination of the names PM Modi and PM Meloni that has frequently appeared on social media during meetings between the two leaders.
Internet users have widely used the hashtag to highlight their cordial interactions and relaxed chemistry at international events.
Giorgia Meloni sparked the viral ‘Melodi’ trend during the COP28 Summit in Dubai after she shared a selfie with PM Modi and captioned it, “Good friends at COP28. #Melodi.”
Since then, PM Modi and Meloni have drawn widespread attention through their warm interactions at global events and diplomatic meetings.
During the Rome visit, Meloni hosted a special dinner for PM Modi near the iconic Colosseum.
Photos and videos of their selfies and informal conversations quickly went viral on social media.
The two leaders also spent time overlooking the Rome skyline from a balcony near the historic monument.
PM Modi arrived in Rome for the final leg of his five-nation tour and was warmly welcomed by Meloni.
Both leaders will hold bilateral talks under the India-Italy Joint Strategic Action Plan 2025–2029, focusing on trade, investment, defence, clean energy, innovation and cultural exchanges.
