4 Moroccan migrants discovered dead along their boat off the Spanish coast

A police source said that the dead of four Moroccan migrants were discovered near their boat on the southern coast of Spain on Wednesday.

According to the source, the four men were discovered, probably drowned, near the boat carrying 32 other Moroccan migrants who had arrived on beaches near Cadiz.

Four of the migrants who survived the trek were discovered to be hypothermia and one of them was hospitalised.

The Spanish police have launched an investigation.

With boats departing from Morocco and Algeria, Spain is one of the main entry routes for migrants into Europe, notably via the western Mediterranean.

According to the most recent numbers from the Spanish interior ministry, over 13,000 such migrants arrived on the Spanish mainland or the Balearic islands between January 1 and November 15, up 11.5 percent over the same period the previous year.

Moroccans account for over half of those using this migration route, according to the European agency Frontex.
