11 Indians Found Dead In Gudauri Ski Resort Tragedy In Georgia

11 Indian nationals died in a restaurant in the mountain resort of Gudauri in Georgia, according to the Indian Mission. The Ministry of Internal Affairs of Georgia said in a statement that the initial inspection did not find any signs of injury or violence.

Mission Gathers Information

Local media quoted the police as saying that all the victims died of carbon monoxide poisoning. The Indian Mission in Tbilisi said that all the 12 victims were Indian nationals.

However, the statement of the Ministry of Internal Affairs of Georgia said that 11 of the dead were foreigners while one victim was their citizen.

It said that the bodies of all the victims were found in the bedroom on the second floor of the staff facility of the same Indian restaurant.

The Indian Mission said in a statement, “The Mission has just learned about the death of 11 Indian nationals in Gudauri, Georgia. My deepest condolences to the bereaved families.”

It further added, “The Mission is in touch with the local authorities to obtain information about the Indian nationals who lost their lives. All possible assistance will be provided.”

Georgia police launch investigation

The police launched an investigation under Article 116 of Georgia’s Criminal Code, which implies negligent homicide.

According to preliminary investigations, an electric generator was kept in a closed space near the bedroom, which was turned on after the power supply was cut off on Friday night. A forensic medical examination has also been appointed to determine the “exact cause of death”.

Investigative actions are being actively carried out, with forensic criminologists working on the spot.
