In a major development, the Central government has banned the Popular Front of India (PFI), declaring the outfit and all its associates, affiliates and fronts as Unlawful Association under Unlawful Activities (Prevention) Act is (UAPA).
According to an official order, the ban has been imposed for a period of five years.
RJD president Lalu Prasad on Wednesday called the Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh a “Hindu extremist organization” that deserved to be banned. Prasad made the remark replying to queries from journalists about the Union Home Ministry’s ban on Popular Front of India and several of its associates under a stringent anti-terror law.
“They keep raising the bogey of PFI. The RSS, is all about Hindu extremism (kattarpanth’), which deserves to be banned first, said the senior with characteristic candor.
‘Action Shows My Son Didn’t Lose Life in Vain’: Kin of Slain RSS Men on PFI Ban
Justice, though delayed, will finally be delivered, said families of slain RSS workers Praveen Nettaru, Sharath Madiwala, Rudresh, Deepak Rao, and Bajrang Dal activist Harsha as news about the Popular Front of India (PFI) being banned flashed on their TV screens.
”I’m not supporting PFI but Government should’ve waited for probe before taking decision of banning PFI for 5 yrs. Government should ask Central Agencies to also probe Bajrang Dal, RSS, VHP who spread hate speech: AIUDF MLA Rafiqul Islam to media.
The AIMIM President said in a series of tweets that while he opposed PFI’s approach, the ban cannot be supported. “A draconian ban of this kind is dangerous as it is a ban on any Muslim who wishes to speak his mind The way India’s electoral autarky is approaching fascism, every Muslim youth will now be arrested with a PFI pamphlet under India’s black law, UAPA.”
“Muslims have spent decades in prison before being acquitted by courts. I have opposed UAPA & will always oppose all actions under UAPA. It runs erroneously the principle of liberty, which is part of basic structure of the constitution,” he said.
