Bridge Breaking: Gujrat witnesses sudden shock with 60 dead & hundreds hurt

A cable bridge collapse in Gujarat saw hundreds of people hurt with around sixty deaths, as per the reports. Approximately five hundred people were on the bridge when it collapsed out of whom more than hundred still are trapped in the water.

It was Morbi district of Gujrat where the incident shocked the state with collapse of the bridge many feared hurt. PM Modi spoke to the Chief Minister seeking prompt mobilization of teams for rescue operations.

Today on Sunday 30th of October a bridge over the Machechhu river suddenly shook and within no time collapsed onto the river streams.

It was a cable bridge of Morbi area in Gujarat which stunned the state being a mere unexpected collapse in the Machchhu river today. More than hundred people are feared injured leaving around thirty people dead.

As per the immediate reports, there may be many tourists among those hurt though no confirmation has been received yet. Further reports are awaited.

PM Modi, who was in Gujrat today, spoke to the state  Chief Minister Bhupendra Patel along with other officials about the mishap. the Prime Minister Office has also sought quick mobilization of rescue teams.

In accordance with the PMO statement, “The Prime Minister has asked about the situation, closely and continuously monitoring it with instructions of extending all possible help for the ones affected.”

 

CM Patel tweets, “I feel deeply saddened by the shocking tragedy of the suspension bridge collapse. Relief & rescue ops are on with continuous instructions for arranging prompt treatment to the injured. I am constantly in touch with the district administration in this regard.”

As per the reports, recently after repairs the hanging bridge was reopened. And the reason behind the mishap may be it was carrying people more than its capacity.

Union home minister Amit Shah also spoke to Gujrat Home Minister Harsh Sanghavi and several other state officials. The Home Ministry states that “the local administration is engaged in the rescue and relief work. The NDRF teams are also approaching to the spot soon. Administration has also been directed to provide immediate support to the victims of the mishap.  Harsh Sanghavi immediately after the news break left for Morbi.
