Weather Update: IMD Issues Rain And Thunderstorm Alert Across 15 States

The India Meteorological Department has issued weather alerts for multiple parts of the country, warning of heavy rainfall, thunderstorms and strong winds across 15 states, including Uttar Pradesh, Bihar and Punjab.

According to the forecast issued on Saturday, several regions may witness intense weather activity with wind speeds reaching 80 to 85 kmph. The weather office also cautioned that parts of north India could experience severe storms and possible hailstorms over the next few days.

In Punjab, thunderstorms and rain have been forecast for six districts. The Meteorological Centre in Chandigarh said Pathankot, Gurdaspur, Fazilka, Amritsar, Hoshiarpur and Muktsar could witness lightning activity and strong winds ranging between 40 and 50 kmph.

Alongside storm warnings, the IMD has also issued a Yellow Alert for heatwave conditions in several parts of Punjab from May 16 to May 20.

Delhi and nearby regions, which received temporary relief after dust storms and gusty winds earlier this week, will now likely see temperatures rise again. Residents of the national capital recorded a relatively pleasant Friday morning with the minimum temperature settling near 25 degrees Celsius.

The IMD, however, said hot and dry weather is likely to return across Delhi-NCR. The maximum temperature in Delhi will likely cross 40 degrees Celsius on Saturday.

The weather department has forecast mainly clear skies for May 16, with temperatures likely to touch 41 degrees Celsius, while the minimum may remain around 24 degrees Celsius.

On May 17, the temperature could rise further to nearly 42 degrees Celsius. The IMD has also predicted partly cloudy skies with chances of thunderstorms and lightning activity in the national capital.
