Viral Video Of Elderly Man Falling While Boarding Moving Train in Karnataka; Sparks Railway Safety Debate

A recent viral video from Davangere railway station in Karnataka shows an elderly man losing balance while boarding a moving train, pulling another passenger down and sparking renewed safety concerns.

The video, shared by vlogger @desi_cravings_ on Instagram, shows the man stumbling dangerously close to the moving train before collapsing onto the platform, dragging another individual down in the process.

Onlookers rushed to the spot, helping both passengers to safety before any serious harm occurred.

The vlogger, who happened to be filming a moving train at the time, shared his shock in the post’s caption, “Today, while shooting a moving train in Davangere, I witnessed something I’ll never forget. A man fell off the train right before my eyes.”

He described the moment as ‘horrifying and heart-stopping’, noting how quickly nearby people responded to help.

Public Reactions & Online Debate

The video has since garnered over 17 million views, sparking widespread public discussion on social media.

While some users criticised the elderly man’s decision to board a moving train, many defended him, arguing that he was not solely responsible for the incident.

‘Uncle wasn’t the reason for the fall’, one user wrote. Others shared advice such as ‘Always keep your bag in front for safety’ and praised the bystanders who rushed to help, ‘Respect for the guy who ran to save them’.

The Davangere incident is part of a worrying pattern.

In March, a 62-year-old man lost both legs while attempting to board a moving train at New Delhi Railway Station.

He fell between the train and the platform on Platform 14 and was later found injured on the tracks.

These incidents underscore the ongoing risks posed by overcrowded platforms and passenger urgency.

Despite repeated awareness campaigns by Indian Railways, many commuters continue to attempt boarding or alighting from moving trains, often with devastating consequences.

The video has reignited calls for stricter safety protocols at railway stations, including better crowd management, awareness drives, and surveillance.

As millions depend on India’s railways daily, the need for education around safe commuting habits and enforcement of existing rules remains more urgent than ever.

With incidents like these continuing to surface, authorities face increasing pressure to address systemic safety gaps and protect vulnerable passengers.
