A modest Rs 39 investment turned into a life-altering windfall for Mangal Prasad, a resident of Ghasi Ram Purwa village in UP’s Kaushambi district, after he won Rs 4 crore on a fantasy cricket app.
Prasad, who dropped out of school, works at a plywood factory in Hapur.
He is the son of farmer Sukhlal Saroj and one of eight siblings.
Married with three children, Prasad had long hoped for a big win on the app.
“I had been trying for a long time and used to lose. But I never gave up,” he said in the video.
He revealed that while the prize money has been credited, it has yet to reflect in his bank account.
Prasad plans to invest his winnings into launching a business and improving his family’s future.
His story has captured wide attention online, with the video gaining nearly one million views.
As per media reports, Prasad secured the massive prize on April 29 by creating a winning team during the IPL match between Punjab Kings and Chennai Super Kings on the Dream11 platform.
He had been participating in fantasy cricket contests for months, usually entering with ₹49. This time, he chose a ₹39 entry, and it paid off spectacularly.
After a standard 30% tax deduction, Prasad will take home ₹2.8 crore, the report confirmed.
News of the win quickly spread across Ghasi Ram Purwa village, drawing neighbours and relatives who came to congratulate the new millionaire.
A video capturing the moment went viral on social media, with Prasad sharing his disbelief and joy.
While many users praised Prasad’s perseverance, others warned against glorifying such rare success stories.
“Don’t get influenced by such exceptions. You might lose everything before you realise it,” a concerned user wrote.
The incident reignites debates around the risks and rewards of fantasy sports apps in India.
