The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has forecast widespread rainfall across several parts of the country, with heavy to very heavy showers expected over northern, eastern and central India, including Delhi-NCR.
Thunderstorms accompanied by lightning and gusty winds are also likely as active monsoon conditions continue to influence weather patterns.
The IMD said a low-pressure area over northern central Uttar Pradesh will weaken over the next 24 hours, but active monsoon systems will continue to trigger widespread rainfall across northern, central, eastern and northeastern India. It forecast heavy rain over Punjab, Haryana, Chandigarh, Delhi, Uttarakhand, Himachal Pradesh, Jammu and Kashmir, Ladakh and western Uttar Pradesh, while eastern Uttar Pradesh is likely to receive heavier showers from July 12.
The IMD also predicted scattered rain over Madhya Pradesh, Vidarbha and Chhattisgarh, with thunderstorms and gusty winds of up to 60 kmph in parts of Madhya Pradesh.
Arunachal Pradesh is likely to receive heavy rainfall, while the remaining northeastern states can expect widespread rain and thunderstorms.
The IMD forecast active monsoon conditions across southern India, with moderate to heavy rain over Coastal Karnataka and Kerala and thunderstorms over Tamil Nadu, Puducherry, Karaikal, Telangana, Coastal Andhra Pradesh, Rayalaseema and interior Karnataka.
Improved weather also helped Delhi record its first ‘Good’ AQI day of 2026, with an average AQI of 48 on July 9.
The IMD warned that heavy rain could cause waterlogging, poor visibility, traffic disruptions and localised flooding, and urged residents to follow weather advisories and take necessary precautions.
