Gold, Silver Prices: Will US-Iran Tensions And Inflation Data Trigger Fresh Bullion Swings?

Gold and silver prices may see sharp movements in the coming week, with market participants assessing tensions between the United States and Iran, crude oil trends and upcoming inflation readings from major economies.

Expectations surrounding global interest rates will shape bullion market sentiment.

Investors are likely to examine inflation data from China, the US, Germany, Japan and India for indications of the next steps by central banks.

US employment figures and statements from Federal Reserve officials will provide further clues about possible rate changes.

Developments in the Middle East will likely remain central to price movements.

US President Donald Trump has confirmed additional military strikes against Iran while claiming that negotiations with Tehran have made considerable headway.

The contrasting signals have left markets uncertain about the prospects of further conflict or a diplomatic breakthrough.

Progress in Russia-Ukraine peace discussions will be monitored, as any major shift in either conflict could influence demand for gold and silver as safe-haven investments, analysts said.

On the domestic Multi Commodity Exchange (MCX), December gold futures rose Rs 3,682, or nearly 3 per cent, over the previous week, ending at Rs 1.42 lakh per 10 grams. Silver contracts gained Rs 5,655, or 3.15 per cent, to finish at Rs 1.84 lakh per kilogram.

Overseas markets recorded stronger gains. COMEX December gold futures advanced $176, or 4.5 per cent, to $4,074.90 per ounce, while silver climbed $2.60, or 5.4 per cent, to settle at $51.94 per ounce.

Bullion initially came under pressure after stronger-than-expected US nonfarm payroll figures and improved consumer confidence supported the dollar and pushed Treasury yields higher.

Prices subsequently rebounded during the middle of the week as buyers took advantage of lower levels and traders covered short positions.
