On Sunday, Prime Minister Narendra Modi met veteran BJP leader and former Deputy Prime Minister Lal Krishna Advani at his residence on Sunday to mark his birthday and wish him good health and longevity.
The occasion marked Advani’s entry into his 100th year.
A recipient of the Bharat Ratna, Advani is regarded as one of the key figures behind the BJP’s growth into a major national political force.
Following the meeting, PM Modi shared details of his tribute on X and announced that he had written an article highlighting Advani’s contribution to India.
Today, 8th November, is a landmark day. Respected L.K. Advani Ji enters his hundredth year. On this special occasion, my greetings to him.
I’ve written an article in which I’ve highlighted his everlasting contribution to India.
I have recalled his journey, be it experiencing the horrors of Partition and rebuilding life from scratch, strengthening the Jana Sangh and building the BJP, standing up for democracy during the Emergency, leading the Somnath to Ayodhya Rath Yatra or serving the nation in government.
Have also written about other aspects of Advani Ji – the voracious reader, his love for culture and cinema, a prolific writer and more.

The Prime Minister recalled Advani’s experience of Partition, his role in strengthening the Bharatiya Jana Sangh and building the BJP, his opposition to the Emergency, and his leadership of the Somnath-Ayodhya Rath Yatra.
PM Modi mentioned Advani’s time in government, interest in reading, cinema and culture, and his work as an author.
Reflecting on the veteran leader’s political journey, PM Modi highlighted his early association with the Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS), his parliamentary career and his commitment to the principle of ‘Nation First’.
The Prime Minister further credited Advani’s leadership with expanding the BJP’s organisational reach and developing generations of party workers.
PM Modi recalled Advani’s partnership with former Prime Minister Atal Bihari Vajpayee, describing their association as an example of leadership built on cooperation rather than rivalry. Their political partnership, he said, had a lasting influence on the country’s political direction.
Advani’s birthday prompted greetings from political leaders across party lines, Union Ministers and BJP workers.
The milestone featured special programmes and gatherings to recognise his decades of public service. His political legacy, marked by organisational discipline, dedication and ideological commitment, however, continues to hold significance in Indian public life.
