Gold ETF Inflows Jump 71% To Rs 4,451 Crore In September As SIP Contributions Hit Record

Gold exchange-traded funds (ETFs) witnessed a sharp rise in investor interest in September, with net inflows increasing 71.4% month-on-month to ₹4,451 crore from ₹2,597 crore in August, according to data released by the Association of Mutual Funds in India (AMFI) on Monday.

The surge came even as the broader mutual fund industry recorded net outflows of ₹1.33 lakh crore during the month, reversing the net inflows of ₹41,353 crore reported in August.

Heavy withdrawals from debt-oriented schemes largely drove the decline.

Debt mutual funds recorded net outflows of ₹1.83 lakh crore in September, compared with ₹8,127 crore in August. These redemptions contributed to a fall in the industry’s overall assets under management (AUM) to ₹82.64 lakh crore from ₹87.08 lakh crore in the previous month.

Equity mutual funds, however, continued to attract investments.

Net inflows into equity schemes rose 30.6% to ₹38,307 crore in September from ₹29,328 crore in August, reflecting sustained investor participation.

Small-cap funds remained the most popular equity category, attracting ₹9,039 crore, up from ₹7,973 crore in August.

Mid-cap funds recorded strong inflows, rising to ₹7,835 crore from ₹6,989 crore.

Flexi-cap funds received ₹6,702 crore in net investments, compared with ₹5,059 crore a month earlier.

Sectoral and thematic funds saw inflows more than double to ₹3,640 crore from ₹1,713 crore.

Large-cap funds returned to positive territory, attracting ₹859 crore in September after recording net outflows of ₹1,147 crore in August.

Multi-asset allocation funds attracted ₹3,667 crore, almost unchanged from ₹3,671 crore in the preceding month.

Investor participation through systematic investment plans (SIPs) remained strong.

Monthly SIP contributions reached a record ₹32,490 crore in September, marginally exceeding the ₹32,297 crore recorded in August.

The figures highlight continued investment flows into equity-oriented schemes and gold ETFs despite significant withdrawals from debt funds.
