Delhi Weather Update: Heavy Rain Hits Capital, Thunderstorms Likely In Evening

Heavy rain lashed several parts of Delhi in the early hours of Thursday, bringing relief from hot and humid conditions.

Cloudy skies continued to cover parts of the national capital after the downpour.

The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has forecast light rain between 12:30 PM and 3:30 PM, with temperatures expected to remain around 33 degrees Celsius. The chance of rainfall during this period stands at 20 per cent.

Rain chances are likely to increase in the evening, with scattered thunderstorms expected between 4:30 PM and 6:30 PM.

Temperatures could fall to between 31 and 32 degrees Celsius, while the probability of rainfall may rise to 35 per cent.

The monsoon remains active across several parts of the country, with heavy rain reported in Himachal Pradesh, Assam, Gujarat, Odisha, Uttarakhand and Uttar Pradesh.

The IMD has issued colour-coded alerts in several districts, warning of heavy to extremely heavy rainfall and associated risks.

In Uttar Pradesh, the IMD issued red alerts for extremely heavy rain in Banda, Prayagraj and Mirzapur, while several neighbouring districts remained under yellow alerts.

Heavy rain has disrupted normal life in Himachal Pradesh.

The State Emergency Operation Centre reported that 166 roads, including National Highway-003, remained blocked. Rain affected 130 power transformers and 222 water supply schemes. Mandi remained the worst-hit district, with 84 roads blocked.

Despite the rain, Delhi’s air quality remained in the poor category. Anand Vihar recorded the highest AQI among the listed stations at 264, followed by Bawana at 249. Several other areas, including North Campus, Rohini, Punjabi Bagh, Ashok Vihar and RK Puram, recorded moderate to poor air quality.
