Delhi Weather Today: Temperatures Dip As Dry Conditions Raise Poor AQI Concerns

Delhi-NCR is witnessing a gradual drop in temperatures, with mornings and evenings turning cooler following the withdrawal of the monsoon from North India.

Dry weather and stagnant winds could push the national capital’s air quality into the poor category for the first time this season on Monday.

According to the India Meteorological Department (IMD), Delhi is likely to experience clear skies and dry conditions over the coming week.

Minimum temperatures are expected to remain between 18 and 20 degrees Celsius, while maximum temperatures could range from 31 to 35 degrees Celsius.

The Safdarjung Meteorological Centre recorded a maximum temperature of 31.7 degrees Celsius and a minimum of 18.6 degrees Celsius on October 18. The minimum temperature is likely to remain between 18 and 19 degrees Celsius on Monday.

Delhi recorded an Air Quality Index (AQI) of 187 on Sunday, placing it in the moderate category. 22 monitoring stations reported poor air quality, signalling rising pollution levels across several parts of the capital.

With little rainfall expected, vehicle emissions, construction dust and other pollutants could accumulate, potentially worsening air quality across Delhi-NCR.

The IMD expects largely clear conditions across North India from October 18 to 24, with temperatures in Delhi-NCR, Punjab, Haryana, Uttar Pradesh, Bihar and Rajasthan likely to remain up to two degrees above normal in some areas.

In contrast, southern India is likely to receive rainfall through October 23.

Tamil Nadu, Puducherry, Kerala, Karnataka and Lakshadweep may experience showers, with isolated heavy rainfall forecast for parts of Tamil Nadu, Puducherry, Kerala, Mahe and south interior Karnataka.

Meteorologists are monitoring the possible influence of El Niño on the upcoming winter, although its impact on India’s temperatures and rainfall remains uncertain.
