Moderate rainfall greeted Delhi-NCR on Thursday morning, bringing much-needed relief from humid weather.
The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has forecast another spell of widespread monsoon showers across several parts of the country.
The weather agency expects active monsoon conditions to trigger heavy to very heavy rainfall in northern, eastern, western and southern India over the next 24 hours.
The IMD has predicted generally cloudy skies and possible heavy rainfall in Delhi-NCR during the day. It has not issued any weather alert for the national capital or neighbouring areas.
Uttarakhand, Odisha, Kerala, Konkan and Goa, Madhya Maharashtra and Gangetic West Bengal may receive heavy to very heavy rainfall.
The IMD also expects heavy showers in Uttar Pradesh, Bihar, Jharkhand, Rajasthan, Madhya Pradesh, Himachal Pradesh, Assam, Meghalaya and Tamil Nadu.
According to the department, the monsoon trough extends from Sri Ganganagar to Mizoram through Rohtak, Shahjahanpur, Sultanpur, Gaya and Bankura. This weather system has created favourable conditions for widespread rainfall.
Cyclonic circulations over Uttar Pradesh, Bihar and the northeastern states, combined with a western disturbance, may further intensify rainfall during the next 24 hours.
Authorities have issued a yellow alert for 20 districts of western Uttar Pradesh. The weather department has also forecast scattered showers across the state on Friday.
Persistent heavy rainfall in Uttarakhand has raised water levels in rivers and streams and increased the threat of landslides in the hill districts.
The IMD has issued an Orange Alert for heavy rainfall in several Uttarakhand districts, including Dehradun. It has urged residents and local authorities to remain vigilant amid the continuing adverse weather conditions.
