Delhi Weather: IMD Predicts More Rain, Issues Yellow Alert

Delhi and nearby areas experienced a noticeable change in weather on Friday as light showers and cool winds eased the sticky conditions seen earlier in the week.

The India Meteorological Department has forecast more rain across the region over the coming three days and placed parts of Delhi under a yellow alert.

The weather office expects rain to remain active across Delhi and the National Capital Region, with intermittent light showers likely during the weekend. It has also highlighted a low to moderate possibility of flash flooding in certain watersheds and low-lying locations within the next 24 hours.

The persistent rain pushed temperatures down sharply.

According to IMD figures, Delhi’s maximum temperature fell to 27.6 degrees Celsius on Thursday from 32.6 degrees Celsius a day earlier.

The reading remained 6.6 degrees below Wednesday’s figure and 6.6 degrees below the seasonal normal of 34.2 degrees Celsius.

The capital recorded a minimum temperature of 25.6 degrees Celsius. This resulted in only a two-degree difference between the day’s maximum and minimum temperatures.

The rain intensified during the early hours of Thursday, prompting the IMD to issue an orange alert.

Lodhi Road received the highest rainfall among the city’s monitoring stations, recording 60.4 mm. Safdarjung followed with 56 mm, while Delhi Ridge registered 54.4 mm.

The IMD considers rainfall between 15.6 mm and 64.4 mm as moderate rainfall.

Heavy showers left waterlogged stretches across several parts of Delhi and disrupted normal movement.

The Public Works Department received complaints from locations such as Press Enclave Marg, Defence Colony, Kanjhawala and Palla.

Authorities received reports of accumulated water in parts of Karkardooma, Saraswati Vihar in Pitampura and several areas of Dwarka. The situation affected traffic flow at multiple points.

Gurugram Police issued an advisory on Thursday morning. The police urged corporate offices and private establishments to consider allowing employees to work from home.

The authorities said reducing the number of vehicles on the roads could ease congestion. They added that it would also allow emergency services to move more smoothly.
