Delhi is likely to witness moderate rainfall on Wednesday after the India Meteorological Department (IMD) issued a yellow alert for the national capital amid persistent monsoon activity.
The weather agency has forecast generally cloudy skies and predicted that rain will continue across the city until August 10.
Several parts of Delhi received rainfall on Tuesday, providing relief from hot and humid conditions.
According to the IMD, Ayanagar recorded the highest rainfall among the city’s weather monitoring stations. Although the showers lowered temperatures, humidity is expected to remain high.
The IMD has forecast a maximum temperature of around 33 degrees Celsius and a minimum of nearly 24 degrees Celsius for Wednesday.
The yellow alert urges residents to remain vigilant, as rainfall and thunderstorms could disrupt routine activities in some localities.
The IMD also issued district-wise nowcast warnings for several northern states.
The department cautioned people about thunderstorms, lightning, heavy rainfall and gusty winds likely over the next two to three hours.
A red alert remains in force for Patiala district in Punjab.
The IMD warned of severe thunderstorms, lightning, wind speeds of up to 60 kmph and rainfall exceeding 15 mm per hour.
Authorities advised residents to stay indoors and avoid unnecessary travel.
Additionally, the IMD issued an orange alert for Fatehgarh Sahib, Ludhiana, Sangrur and SAS Nagar in Punjab.
Similar warnings cover Amethi, Ayodhya, Barabanki, Fatehpur, Hardoi, Kanpur Dehat, Kanpur Nagar, Lucknow, Pratapgarh, Raebareli and Unnao in Uttar Pradesh.
The weather department has advised people to avoid open areas during thunderstorms and closely follow official weather advisories as active monsoon conditions persist across northern India.
