PIB Fact Check Debunks Fake Video Claiming PM Modi Announced Free E-Bike Scheme

PIB Fact Check has debunked a viral video that falsely claims Prime Minister Narendra Modi announced a central government scheme to provide free electric bicycles to students holding Aadhaar cards.

The government clarified that the circulating video is completely fake and digitally manipulated. It confirmed that the Centre has not launched any such scheme offering free electric bicycles to students.

According to PIB Fact Check, creators altered the original footage using artificial intelligence and digital editing techniques. They inserted fabricated news graphics and misleading audio to falsely portray the Prime Minister announcing the non-existent welfare initiative.

The fact-checking unit urged citizens not to trust or circulate such deceptive content. It advised the public to verify every government announcement only through authorised government platforms and official communication channels.

Officials said the manipulated clip follows a recurring pattern in which fraudsters exploit AI technology to create convincing deepfake videos. These fabricated clips often promise fake government benefits, financial rewards or welfare schemes to mislead unsuspecting users.

Independent fact-checks have also confirmed that no central government programme provides free electric bicycles to students based solely on Aadhaar card eligibility.

PIB Fact Check stressed that citizens should remain alert while consuming content on social media. It encouraged users to cross-check suspicious claims before sharing them online.

The government reiterated that authentic policy announcements are issued only through official Ministries, government portals and verified social media accounts.

Authorities also urged people to report misleading content promptly to help curb the spread of misinformation and protect the public from online fraud.
