Delhi Weather Delivers Double Relief: Rain Keeps Heat Away, Air Turns Cleaner

The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has forecast rain and gusty winds across Delhi-NCR until June 4, bringing continued relief from the summer heat.

The weather is expected to keep daytime temperatures below 40 degrees Celsius until at least June 6.

The IMD has issued a yellow alert for Monday and Tuesday, warning of light to moderate rainfall and strong winds.

Maximum temperatures are likely to remain between 35 and 38 degrees Celsius early this week before rising slightly to 37-39 degrees Celsius.

On Sunday, Delhi recorded a maximum temperature of 35.8 degrees Celsius, nearly four degrees below normal.

The previous day, the maximum temperature stood at 37.1 degrees Celsius. Although rainfall remained limited, cloudy skies and cool winds helped maintain pleasant conditions across the city.

The improvement in weather has also had a positive impact on air quality. Rainfall and stronger winds aided the dispersion of pollutants, resulting in Delhi recording its cleanest air in more than 230 days.

The city’s Air Quality Index (AQI) fell to 85, placing it in the ‘satisfactory’ category and marking the lowest reading since October 8, when the AQI stood at 80.

Several monitoring stations across Delhi reported satisfactory AQI levels, indicating a notable improvement in air quality.

The Commission for Air Quality Management (CAQM) said Delhi recorded its lowest average AQI for the January-May period in eight years, excluding 2020.

The capital posted an average AQI of 211 during the first five months of 2026, reflecting continued improvement in air quality.
