Residents across Delhi and the National Capital Region (NCR) may get some respite from the recent hot weather, with the India Meteorological Department (IMD) forecasting rain and thunderstorm activity over the next few days.
The weather department has predicted light to moderate rainfall across the region between June 18 and June 21.
Skies will likely remain partly cloudy during this period, with scattered showers likely at several locations in Delhi-NCR.
No weather warning or advisory has been issued by the IMD so far.
For Friday, the maximum temperature in the national capital will likely remain between 40°C and 42°C, while the minimum temperature is likely to range from 27°C to 29°C.
According to meteorologists, minimum temperatures will stay close to normal for this time of year, although daytime temperatures could remain slightly above average.
The IMD said winds will mainly blow from the west, reaching speeds of up to 15 kmph during the morning.
Wind speeds will likely increase to around 20 kmph in the afternoon and nearly 25 kmph during the evening and night hours.
The forecast also includes the possibility of thunderstorms, lightning, dust storms and gusty winds. Wind gusts may reach 40-50 kmph, with isolated gusts touching 60 kmph.
Weather experts said cloud cover, rainfall and stronger winds are likely to help moderate temperatures and reduce the chances of heatwave conditions.
Higher humidity levels may continue to cause discomfort in some areas.
Delhi’s air quality remained in the poor category.
Air Quality Index (AQI) readings recorded at various monitoring stations included Anand Vihar at 224, Pusa at 176, Aya Nagar at 106, Bawana at 132, DTU at 104, Mundka at 165, NSIT Dwarka at 96, Narela at 133, RK Puram at 137, Rohini at 142, Sonia Vihar at 122 and Wazirpur at 155.
