Delhi-NCR Weather: IMD Forecasts Rain, Thunderstorms Over Next 2-3 Days

Delhi-NCR woke to pleasant weather and cool winds on Saturday, with the India Meteorological Department (IMD) forecasting light to moderate rain over the next two to three days.

The weather agency issued a yellow alert for Saturday, warning of thunderstorms and gusty winds of up to 30 kmph.

The rain is likely to bring relief from recent heat as the National Capital enters the post-monsoon period.

Delhi-NCR may receive rain on Saturday and Sunday, with light showers possible on Monday.

A depression over Chhattisgarh and Madhya Pradesh is moving towards Uttar Pradesh and interacting with a weak western disturbance.

A cyclonic circulation over north-western Uttar Pradesh and adjoining areas is influencing the weather.

The IMD expects heavier rain in parts of Uttarakhand and north-western Uttar Pradesh, while Delhi-NCR, Punjab, Haryana and north Rajasthan may receive lighter showers.

The southwest monsoon withdrew from Delhi on September 23, two days ahead of its normal date, marking its earliest retreat from the Capital since 2002.

Prevailing weather systems may, however, continue to trigger scattered rain and thunderstorms over the next few days.

Cloudy skies and moist easterly winds kept temperatures lower in Delhi on Friday.

The maximum temperature reached 33 degrees Celsius, one degree below normal, while the minimum settled at 24.2 degrees Celsius.

The IMD expects temperatures between 32-34 degrees Celsius during the day and 22-23 degrees Celsius at night on Saturday.

A depression over south Odisha and adjoining south Chhattisgarh is likely to bring heavy rain, while the IMD issued a red alert for several Uttar Pradesh districts.

The state government placed districts on alert until September 27.

Delhi’s air quality remained ‘satisfactory’, though Rohini and Wazirpur recorded AQIs of 120 and 129.
