Delhi-NCR May See Rain & Gusty Winds As AQI Remains Poor In Several Areas

Delhi-NCR is likely to experience cloudy skies, light rain and strong winds over the coming days as changing weather conditions associated with the retreating southwest monsoon bring rainfall to several parts of northern India.

The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued rain alerts for 14 states, warning of heavy showers in several regions.

Delhi, Punjab and Haryana may witness cloudy conditions and light rain until October 14. Delhi-NCR is likely to receive light showers accompanied by strong winds on October 10 and 11.

Western and eastern Uttar Pradesh may also experience rainfall between October 9 and 11, while eastern Rajasthan could receive light rain on October 12.

The IMD has forecast heavy rainfall in Uttarakhand until October 14. Districts including Pithoragarh, Chamoli and Rudraprayag are under a heavy rain alert. Authorities have advised pilgrims undertaking the Char Dham Yatra, particularly those visiting Kedarnath and Badrinath, to remain cautious.

Jammu and Kashmir and Ladakh may receive heavy showers on October 9 and 10, followed by another spell on October 13 and 14. Himachal Pradesh districts, including Chamba, Kullu, Manali and Shimla, may experience rainfall on October 13 and 14.

The retreating monsoon is also expected to bring rain to Bihar, Jharkhand and West Bengal over the next few days. Patna, Ranchi and Dhanbad may experience thunderstorms and lightning. Southern states, including Karnataka, Kerala and Tamil Nadu, along with Puducherry and Karaikal, are forecast to receive heavy rainfall between October 9 and 11.

Rain is also likely across northeastern states, including Arunachal Pradesh, Assam, Meghalaya, Nagaland, Mizoram and Tripura, until October 14. Eastern Madhya Pradesh may receive showers until October 11, while Chhattisgarh could see rainfall on October 14.

Meanwhile, Delhi’s air quality remained in the moderate to poor categories, with several monitoring stations recording AQI levels above 200. Dwarka Sector 8 reported the highest reading at 231, followed by RK Puram at 219, Punjabi Bagh at 211 and Narela at 210. Pusa and NSUT Jaffarpur both recorded an AQI of 203.

Other monitoring stations reported readings between 115 and 198, indicating varying pollution levels across the capital. The changing weather may bring showers and stronger winds to the region, while air quality continues to require monitoring.
