Delhi-NCR Braces For Rain, Thunderstorms As IMD Issues Orange Alert

New Delhi may finally get some relief from the intense summer heat as the India Meteorological Department (IMD) forecasts rain, thunderstorms and lightning across Delhi-NCR over the next two days.

The IMD has issued an orange alert for Thursday, warning of rain, thunderstorms and gusty winds in the national capital.

Weather conditions are likely to remain unstable on June 11 and 12, with partly cloudy skies and light to heavy rainfall expected, especially during the evening and night.

Strong winds of 50-60 kmph, with gusts reaching 70 kmph, may affect several parts of the city.

The alert follows severe weather earlier this week when wind speeds reportedly touched 111 kmph in some areas of Delhi.

The IMD has also warned of isolated dust storms, lightning and thunderstorm activity throughout the day.

Despite the expected rainfall, Delhi may continue to experience hot and humid weather, with temperatures ranging between 40°C and 42°C.

Rain is likely to bring some relief on June 12, lowering the maximum temperature to around 36°C and the minimum to about 26°C.

The southwest monsoon is expected to reach Delhi-NCR between June 25 and 30 before advancing into Haryana, Punjab, Chandigarh, Himachal Pradesh, Ladakh and Jammu and Kashmir.

Several other states are also likely to witness significant weather activity.

Uttar Pradesh may receive scattered rainfall along with thundersqualls, strong winds, dust storms and isolated hailstorms, particularly in western districts.

Keralam and Mahe continue to experience active monsoon conditions.

The IMD has forecast widespread rainfall and isolated spells of very heavy showers through June 12, increasing the risk of waterlogging and localised flooding in vulnerable areas.
