Crude Oil Prices Today: Brent, WTI Extend Losses As Supply Fears Ease

International crude oil prices remained subdued on Wednesday, with leading benchmarks staying close to their lowest levels in nearly four months as worries over global supply shortages continued to recede.

Brent crude, the global benchmark, slipped by more than 1 per cent to trade around $76 per barrel. US West Texas Intermediate (WTI) crude declined by roughly 1.5 per cent, hovering near the $72-per-barrel mark.

Both oil contracts have recorded losses exceeding 20 per cent over the past month as expectations of prolonged supply disruptions have weakened considerably.

Investor confidence improved after tensions in West Asia showed signs of easing, reducing fears over the uninterrupted flow of crude oil supplies.

The market also received support from indications that oil tankers delayed in the Gulf region since the Iran conflict began were preparing to resume their journeys through the Strait of Hormuz.

Diplomatic engagement between the United States, Iran, and other regional players has contributed to a more optimistic outlook for global energy supplies.

The recent correction in crude oil prices is expected to provide significant advantages for India, which depends heavily on imported energy.

Cheaper crude can help reduce the country’s import bill, support currency stability, and ease inflationary pressures across the economy.

Market observers noted that the sharp decline in Brent crude prices has lessened several economic concerns that had previously affected investor sentiment.

Experts also pointed out that the rupee has remained relatively stable while foreign institutional investor (FII) outflows appear to have moderated, creating a more favourable environment for financial markets.

Analysts’ View

Analysts believe that Brent crude trading near $76 per barrel reflects the market’s growing confidence that geopolitical risks have moderated.

Ongoing diplomatic discussions between Washington and Tehran have reduced concerns about potential disruptions to global oil supplies, encouraging traders to reassess earlier risk premiums built into prices.
