ChatGPT, OpenAI’s widely used AI chatbot, faced a global outage on Tuesday, with users in India and several other countries reporting issues with loading and receiving responses.
The company acknowledged the problem, citing ‘elevated error rates and latency’ across its platforms.
“We are investigating,” OpenAI stated.
According to reports, 88 per cent of users in India could not receive responses. About 8 per cent faced issues with the mobile app, while 3 per cent encountered API problems. Downdetector also reported a sharp spike in complaints related to the ChatGPT outage.
Many users turned to the social media platform X to express frustration and confirm if others were also affected. One user posted, “Everyone running to Twitter (now X) to check if ChatGPT is down for anyone else.” Another commented, “ChatGPT is down, which means I actually have to type out my own emails at work. Send prayers.”
The ChatGPT outage comes shortly after OpenAI rolled out several new workplace tools for its 3 million paying business users, up from 2 million in February.
The company introduced ‘connectors’ (beta), a feature that integrates ChatGPT with third-party platforms such as Dropbox, Google Drive, OneDrive, Box, and SharePoint. These connectors enable workers to access company data instantly without leaving ChatGPT.
Admins can manage which connectors are enabled for their organisation. OpenAI also launched deep research connectors (beta), integrated with tools like HubSpot, Linear, and several Microsoft and Google services.
While the outage disrupted many users, OpenAI continues to push forward with enhanced features. The new integrations aim to make ChatGPT a central tool for workplace productivity, providing quicker access to data and insights.
OpenAI has not given a timeline for resolving the outage, but investigations are ongoing.
