The elite 209 Commando Battalion for Resolute Action (CoBRA) has emerged as a key force against Maoist insurgents in Jharkhand this year, carrying out precision operations that have significantly weakened the movement.
In 2025, the unit neutralised 20 hardcore Maoists, including two Central Committee Members – the highest-ranking leaders, two BJSAC Members, four Zonal Committee Members (ZCMs), two Sub-Zonal Committee Members (SZCMs), and three Area Committee Members (ACMs).
These individuals were strategic planners and recruiters, whose elimination has created a vacuum in the insurgent hierarchy.
Additionally, three Maoists were captured alive, including one SZCM, one ACM, and a cadre, providing critical intelligence that further disrupted Maoist operations.
During these operations, CoBRA recovered 32 automatic weapons, 345 kg of explosives, 88 detonators, and over 2,500 rounds of ammunition, along with large quantities of other war-like material.
The unit also dismantled 18 hideouts and destroyed 39 bunkers, crippling the insurgents’ logistical network.
Security analysts say these results mark not just tactical wins but strategic milestones, as they undermine leadership, disrupt supply lines, and reclaim territory.
Through targeted strikes on leadership, disruption of supply networks, and recovery of key areas, 209 CoBRA has dealt a significant setback to Maoists in Jharkhand.
Security forces’ morale has surged, while the insurgents struggle with the loss of their central leadership and critical operational resources.
