Would You Pay For Instagram, Facebook, Or WhatsApp? Meta Thinks You Will

Meta is preparing a significant transformation in the digital social media landscape by introducing paid subscription services for Instagram, Facebook, and WhatsApp users across international markets, including India.

The technology giant has launched premium ‘Plus’ versions of its platforms, providing subscribers with access to advanced features, enhanced personalisation tools, and exclusive engagement options unavailable to standard users.

The strategic move reflects Meta’s increasing focus on expanding revenue streams beyond traditional advertising by encouraging users to opt for monthly subscription-based digital experiences.

Instagram Plus and Facebook Plus subscriptions have been priced at 3.99 US dollars per month, approximately Rs 387, while WhatsApp Plus will cost 2.99 US dollars monthly, nearly Rs 290.

The company, however, has not officially confirmed India-specific pricing yet.

According to a TechCrunch report, Instagram Plus subscribers will receive access to several sophisticated features. These include viewing Story rewatch counts, creating unlimited Story audience lists beyond the Close Friends feature, and privately previewing Stories without appearing in viewer records.

Subscribers will also extend Story visibility beyond the standard 24-hour duration and spotlight one Story every week for improved reach.

Additional benefits include searchable Story viewer lists and direct posting to profiles and highlights without displaying posts in followers’ feeds.

Meta will further provide cosmetic enhancements such as animated ‘Super Heart’ reactions, customised fonts, exclusive app icons, and advanced profile pinning tools.

WhatsApp Plus will focus on messaging customisation through premium stickers, personalised chat themes, exclusive ringtones, additional pinned chats, and advanced organisational tools.

Meta clarified that these subscriptions remain separate from Meta Verified while simultaneously expanding its AI-driven ‘Meta One’ subscription ecosystem.
