US technology giant Apple has introduced new health-focused features for users in India, enabling sleep apnea notifications on Apple Watch and a clinically validated hearing test feature on AirPods Pro devices.
The company said the latest additions are designed to help users detect potential health conditions and monitor overall well-being through wearable technology and AI-powered analysis tools.
Apple Watch users in India will now receive sleep apnea notifications through a new ‘Breathing Disturbances’ metric. The feature uses the watch’s accelerometer to track wrist movements associated with interruptions in normal breathing patterns during sleep.
The system analyses breathing disturbance data over a 30-day period and alerts users if it identifies repeated signs of moderate to severe sleep apnea.
Apple said the feature encourages users to seek medical advice for further diagnosis and treatment.
Users can also generate and export PDF reports containing breathing disturbance data and related information to support consultations with healthcare professionals.
Sumbul Desai, Apple’s Vice President of Health and Fitness, said Apple was excited to bring advanced health-monitoring features to users in India through Apple Watch and AirPods Pro devices.
Apple said sleep apnea affects more than one billion people worldwide and often goes undiagnosed, increasing the risk of hypertension, Type 2 diabetes and heart disease.
Apple also launched a clinically validated hearing test for AirPods Pro users in India.
The five-minute test provides hearing summaries and personalised recommendations, with results stored securely in the Health app.
The feature supports AirPods Pro 2 and later models with iOS 18 or iPadOS 18 devices.
