The post has fuelled speculation about Tesla’s long-delayed Roadster project and the possibility of incorporating airborne capabilities into the electric sports car.
A video circulating on social media reportedly shows a Roadster prototype moving along an elevated, curved track before briefly lifting off the ground and landing.
The footage has drawn comparisons with flying car technology, although the demonstration’s technical details have not been independently verified.
The reported showcase has renewed interest in propulsion technology that could extend beyond conventional electric drivetrains.
Earlier, Musk suggested that a future Roadster could feature SpaceX-inspired technology, including cold-gas thrusters designed to improve acceleration and manoeuvrability.
Tesla has not confirmed that the vehicle demonstrated the claimed airborne capability.
The Roadster was unveiled in 2017, with Tesla promoting its performance, acceleration and driving range. Its commercial launch has faced repeated delays, and the company has yet to establish a confirmed delivery timeline for the next-generation model.
If a vehicle can generate enough lift to leave the ground, it would raise significant engineering and regulatory questions, including stability, passenger safety, energy consumption and permission to operate in public spaces.
For now, Musk’s post has added to the anticipation surrounding the Roadster, but the distinction between a technology demonstration and a commercially viable flying car remains important.
