Social Media Platform X Suffers Widespread Outage, Affects Users In US And India

Social media platform X, owned by tech billionaire Elon Musk, experienced a major outage on Saturday, affecting tens of thousands of users across the United States and India.

According to the outage-tracking website Downdetector, more than 25,000 users in the US alone reported issues during the disruption.

Core Features Unavailable For Indian Users

In India, users encountered widespread difficulties with the platform’s core features.

Key panels such as ‘For You’, ‘Following’, and ‘Notifications’ failed to load, and timelines remained static even after repeated attempts to refresh.

The problems extended to basic functionalities as well. Many users struggled to log in, access the mobile app, or load the website indicating that the outage was not limited to a particular region or platform.

Outage Linked To Data Centre Failure

Downdetector began receiving a surge in reports by 8:39 a.m. EDT (6:09 p.m. IST), marking the onset of the large-scale disruption. As reports continued to mount, users voiced frustration on alternative platforms and messaging services.

Responding to the incident, X issued a public statement acknowledging the outage. The company attributed the disruption to an earlier data centre failure that began on Friday.

“Login and signup services are unavailable for some users, and there may be delays in notifications and Premium features,” the platform posted. “Our team is working 24/7 to resolve this. Thanks for your patience, updates soon.”

Company Working To Restore Full Functionality

As of Saturday evening, the company confirmed that systems were gradually recovering. However, intermittent issues continued to affect various functions.

This is not the first time X has experienced large-scale technical difficulties under Musk’s ownership. Previous outages have prompted scrutiny over the platform’s infrastructure and operational stability.

For now, X users are advised to monitor the official support channels for updates as engineers continue restoration efforts.
