Samsung Appoints New Co-CEO & CTO In Major Leadership Reshuffle

Samsung Electronics announced a comprehensive leadership reshuffle on Friday, appointing a new co-chief executive officer and chief technology officer as part of its strategy to navigate rising global business uncertainties.

Under the new structure, President Roh Tae-moon, who has been serving as acting head of Samsung’s Device Experience (DX) division, has officially taken charge of the unit while assuming the role of co-CEO.

The DX division oversees Samsung’s mobile, TV and home appliance businesses and remains central to the company’s consumer electronics strategy.

Roh will share the co-CEO responsibilities with Vice Chairman and CEO Jun Young-hyun, who heads the company’s Device Solutions division, responsible for semiconductor operations.

This dual-leadership system, Samsung said, is intended to enhance the competitiveness of its core business units while ensuring stability in an increasingly challenging global market.

“President Roh will continue to oversee the company’s mobile operations as head of the Mobile Experience business, while Vice Chairman Jun will remain in charge of the memory division,” the company stated in an official release.

Samsung emphasised that the co-CEO arrangement would position the company more effectively to develop next-generation technologies while addressing broader uncertainties affecting the electronics and semiconductor sectors.

New CTO and Research Leadership

In a further move to strengthen its technological capabilities, Samsung promoted Vice President Yoon Jang-hyun, previously CEO of Samsung Ventures Investment Corporation, to serve as the new CTO and President of the DX division.

His appointment signals Samsung’s intention to expand its long-term innovation portfolio and deepen its investment in emerging technologies.

The company also named Park Hong-kun, a professor at Harvard University, as the new head of the Samsung Advanced Institute of Technology (SAIT), the firm’s central research hub.

The appointment underscores Samsung’s push to reinforce its global research leadership and accelerate breakthroughs in fields such as artificial intelligence, next-generation semiconductors and advanced materials.

Meanwhile, Samsung Electronics topped the list of corporate donors in South Korea during the first nine months of 2025, despite a decline in contribution levels.

The company donated 110.4 billion won (US$75.5 million) between January and September, marking a 22 per cent drop from the previous year, according to data from industry tracker CEO Score.

Korea Electric Power Corporation (KEPCO) ranked second with donations totalling 109.2 billion won, followed by Hyundai Motor Company with 106.9 billion won.

SK hynix recorded 59 billion won in charitable contributions, reflecting a 44 per cent rise driven by its strong third-quarter earnings performance.
