Is India’s AI Push Set To Transform The Digital Economy?

India has introduced a series of initiatives to reinforce its digital economy by accelerating artificial intelligence adoption, enhancing content creation, and improving broadcasting access, according to a recent report.

The programme prioritises the development of an AI-ready workforce while broadening the country’s digital framework across media and technology sectors.

Authorities have launched a national AI skilling initiative to train nearly 15,000 creators and media professionals in partnership with Google and YouTube.

The curriculum includes generative AI, prompt engineering, and advanced digital tools to prepare participants for emerging industry demands.

The government has also introduced MyWAVES, a platform within the WAVES OTT ecosystem. It enables users to create, upload, and distribute content across multiple formats and languages, thereby encouraging wider participation.

Authorities have simplified access to broadcasting services by integrating satellite tuners and advanced programme guides directly into television sets. This removes the need for external set-top boxes, reduces costs, and expands reach in underserved regions.

India’s data centre capacity is projected to rise to nearly 4 gigawatts by FY30, attracting investments of about Rs 1.5 lakh crore.

Current capacity stands at 1.2 megawatts per million users, below the global average of 5 megawatts.

Experts stated that enterprise IT and cloud storage currently drive demand. They expect AI-driven workloads to fuel the next growth phase over the coming five to seven years.

Another report indicated that nearly 95 per cent of women are willing to transition into AI-focused roles if organisations provide adequate support, highlighting the sector’s inclusive growth potential.
