PM Narendra Modi Inaugurates Kaynes Semicon Plant In Gujarat

Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Tuesday inaugurated the outsourced semiconductor assembly and test (OSAT) facility of Kaynes Semicon at Sanand, marking the commencement of commercial operations at the plant.

An investment of around Rs 3,300 crore has established the facility, which handles semiconductor assembly, packaging and testing, an essential segment in the chip manufacturing value chain.

The inauguration took place during the Prime Minister’s visit to Gujarat, where he also reviewed the plant’s infrastructure and ongoing operations.

The Sanand unit forms part of the Centre’s broader push under the India Semiconductor Mission to strengthen domestic capabilities in semiconductor manufacturing.

Officials said the plant has begun commercial production with Intelligent Power Modules (IPMs), widely used in electric vehicles, industrial systems, and energy-efficient appliances.

Each module integrates multiple semiconductor chips into a single package, enhancing performance and efficiency across applications. Once fully scaled, the facility will likely achieve a production capacity of about 6.3 million units per day.

The output will cater to both domestic requirements and international markets, including supplies to global semiconductor firms.

During his visit, the Prime Minister was briefed on advanced packaging technologies being deployed at the unit and toured the cleanroom and production lines. He also interacted with officials and staff at the facility.

The government said the project is likely to generate employment opportunities and contribute to building a skilled workforce in high-technology manufacturing.

The Sanand plant forms part of several semiconductor initiatives that aim to reduce import dependence and boost value addition in India, following the inauguration of Micron Technology’s unit earlier this year.
