Is Apple’s Foldable iPhone Finally Ready? Latest Leak Reveals A Major Milestone

Apple’s upcoming foldable iPhone ‘Ultra’ is reportedly set to begin production, despite earlier reports that the company is experiencing issues with certain components.

Apple plans to launch its first foldable iPhone as part of the iPhone 18 Pro lineup.

The device features a 5.5-inch display when closed and a 7.8-inch display when open, an ultra-thin design with minimal creasing, and a durable hinge.

Apple will begin mass production of the foldable iPhone in late July, Korea’s ‘The Elec’ reports.

The company is reported to have locked down the device’s core specifications, a key step before the phone can enter production.

Apple’s production problem was reportedly related to the phone’s hinge.

The Elec reports that the 3D-printed hinge module for the foldable iPhone will be provided by two companies:

1. Taiwan’s Hsinchu Hsing, and
2. US-based Amphenol

During the development of the hinge, many problems arose, including larger-than-expected tolerances, higher defect rates, and noise.

Higher defect rates and noise began appearing after durability testing.

The outlet’s source says that they have now resolved most of these issues.

A similar recent report from China claimed that suppliers have begun delivering components for the foldable iPhone in small batches and have received guidance for a planned September launch.

The iPhone Fold will measure around 5.5 inches when closed and 7.8 inches when open, making it just slightly smaller than the 8.3-inch iPad mini.

At a rumoured thickness of just 4.5 mm, it will become Apple’s thinnest iPhone to date. This design would, however, achieve an impressive feat by beating the current thinnest model, the 5.6 mm iPhone Air.

The foldable iPhone won’t be cheap, with rumours suggesting a starting price north of $2,000. It will be the most expensive iPhone in the 2026 lineup and the most expensive iPhone ever.
