Is Apple Preparing Its Biggest Upgrade Yet With OLED iPad Air And A $2,000 Foldable iPhone?

Apple is reportedly working on bringing OLED display technology to the iPad Air by 2027.

According to a report by Korean publication ETNews, the company plans to expand OLED adoption across its tablet range following this upgrade.

The report indicates that after the iPad Air, Apple may also introduce OLED displays to the iPad Pro and iPad Mini models.

Samsung will likely begin mass production of OLED panels for the iPad Air by the end of this year or early next year.

The report notes that iPad Air sales have historically outperformed those of the iPad Pro. It adds that, unlike the iPad Pro, which experienced weaker demand due to its higher price following the OLED upgrade, the iPad Air will feature a more cost-effective OLED panel.

With lower specifications and manufacturing costs, the iPad Air will likely achieve stronger sales compared to the Pro variant.

The upcoming model is likely to feature a single-stack light-emitting layer, LTPS TFT technology, and a hybrid substrate.

Separately, Apple’s long-anticipated foldable iPhone is reportedly still on track for a September launch.

According to Mark Gurman of Bloomberg, concerns about delays have been overstated.

This contradicts a recent report by Nikkei Asia. The report suggested that Apple faced engineering challenges during early test production and warned of possible delays in shipments.

Nikkei Asia reported potential setbacks and highlighted a critical testing period for resolving technical issues.

Gurman’s assessment presents a more optimistic outlook. He stated that Apple remains on schedule to unveil the foldable device alongside the iPhone 18 Pro and Pro Max.

The complexity of the design and materials may limit the initial supply. There are no signs of any major disruption to the launch timeline.

The foldable iPhone will likely carry a price tag exceeding $2,000. This will make it the most expensive iPhone ever released by Apple. The device is seen as a significant opportunity to boost the company’s average selling price.

Beyond its technological appeal, the product will likely play an important role in strengthening Apple’s position in the premium smartphone segment.
