Instagram Expands Music Feature To Photo Carousels, Enhancing Static Posts

Instagram has rolled out a new feature that allows users to add background music to photo carousel posts, expanding audio integration beyond reels and stories.

The update aims to keep users engaged by giving traditional photo posts a more immersive and expressive format.

Photo carousels remain one of Instagram’s most widely used formats, enabling users to share multiple images in a single post.

With the addition of background music, these posts now deliver a more engaging experience. When viewers open or swipe through a carousel, the selected track plays automatically, adding mood and context without requiring video content.

The feature offers regular users and creators a new way to tell stories, share memories, or highlight moments while maintaining the simplicity of static images.

To use the new option, users can start by opening the Instagram app and tapping the ‘+’ icon to create a post. After selecting the standard post format, they need to choose at least two photos from their gallery to form a carousel.

Once the images are selected and edited, the final editing screen displays an ‘Add music’ option.

Tapping this allows users to browse suggested tracks or search for specific songs. Instagram also provides access to saved audio, making it easier to reuse music from previous posts.

After selecting a track, users can complete the post by adding a caption, tags, or location details before sharing it as usual.

What Viewers Will See

Once published, the carousel appears on the user’s profile and in followers’ feeds like any other post.

However, when viewers tap or swipe through the images, the platform plays the background music, subtly transforming the way users experience photo content.

By introducing music to photo carousels, Instagram continues to blur the line between static and dynamic content.

The update encourages creative expression while allowing users to remain within familiar posting formats, offering an alternative to video-heavy sharing.
