To simplify identity verification, Google on Tuesday announced that users in India can now store Aadhaar-based digital credentials directly in Google Wallet.
The feature allows individuals to use their Aadhaar details in a secure, digital format for routine verification needs, such as confirming age or accessing various online services. It has been developed in collaboration with the Unique Identification Authority of India, the body responsible for issuing Aadhaar.
According to the company, the system uses privacy-focused technology. It allows users to share only specific pieces of information when required. Users do not need to disclose full identity details.
Verification is carried out directly on the user’s device, enhancing security.
Several platforms have already integrated the feature. Cinema chain PVR INOX will use it for age verification and customer rewards, while BharatMatrimony plans to offer verified profiles. Travel platform Atlys will enable quicker visa form filling through the service.
Additional collaborations are expected soon. Mygate is set to adopt the system for verifying delivery and service personnel, while Snabbit aims to use it to improve trust in gig-based work environments.
Google highlighted that security, privacy, and compatibility across systems are central to the rollout. It added that safeguards are built into each stage of the process.
The company also noted that similar digital ID capabilities are being expanded globally. Users in countries such as Singapore, Taiwan, and Brazil will be able to create identity passes using passport information and store them in Google Wallet for both online and in-person verification.
In addition, Google recently introduced an updated search experience powered by its Gemini technology.
The feature enables real-time, conversational interactions using voice and camera inputs. It is available across more than 200 countries, supporting multiple languages and more natural communication.
