Google Rolls Out Gemini-Driven Upgrades To Make Gmail Smarter And More Personalised

Google has unveiled a new set of Gemini-powered features for Gmail, aimed at delivering more personalised insights and helping users manage their inboxes more efficiently.

The rollout has begun in the United States for Gmail users, including subscribers to Google AI Pro and Ultra, with wider availability planned in the coming months.

According to the company, the initial release supports English, while additional languages and regions will be added progressively.

The updates mark another step in Google’s broader push to integrate generative AI more deeply across its core products.

A key addition is the new AI Inbox, designed to function as a personalised briefing tool. It highlights priority emails, pending actions and important updates, allowing users to quickly focus on what matters most.

The feature identifies high-priority contacts by analysing factors such as frequent interactions, saved contacts and contextual relationships inferred from email content.

Google stressed that all analysis takes place within its established privacy framework, ensuring users retain control over their data.

Trusted testers will receive early access to AI Inbox before it becomes more widely available.

Smarter Summaries and Instant Answers

Gmail is also expanding its AI Overviews capability. Long email threads with multiple replies are now automatically summarised into concise key points, reducing the need to scroll through lengthy conversations.

In addition, users can ask questions directly within their inbox. Gemini then generates a brief AI Overview, offering clear answers without requiring manual searches. Conversation summaries through AI Overviews are rolling out globally at no additional cost.

Google has made its ‘Help Me Write’ feature available to all users, enabling them to draft new emails or refine existing ones with AI assistance.

Updated Suggested Replies, which replace Smart Replies, now generate more context-aware, one-click responses that better match a user’s writing style.

While Help Me Write and Suggested Replies are free for everyone, advanced proofreading tools remain exclusive to Google AI Pro and Ultra subscribers.

From next month, Help Me Write will gain deeper personalisation by drawing context from other Google apps.

With nearly three billion users worldwide, Gmail continues to rely heavily on AI, from spam protection to smart composition tools.

Google says these latest Gemini-powered features are intended to further simplify communication and boost everyday productivity for users globally.
