OpenAI has introduced its AI coding assistant Codex to the ChatGPT mobile app for both iOS and Android users, enabling developers to manage and monitor coding tasks remotely through their smartphones.
The company launched the feature in preview mode across all ChatGPT plans, including Free and Go, in supported regions.
With the latest integration, users can connect the ChatGPT mobile app to systems running Codex, including laptops, Mac minis, development boxes and managed remote environments.
The feature allows developers to access project updates, review outputs, and manage coding workflows without needing to return to their desktop devices.
According to OpenAI, the mobile experience enables users to approve commands, switch AI models, launch new coding tasks and monitor active project threads directly within the app.
The company said the app synchronises real-time updates such as screenshots, terminal outputs, test results, code differences and approval requests.
Files, credentials and permissions remain securely stored on the connected machine rather than the mobile device.
OpenAI also revealed that more than four million users are currently using Codex every week, reflecting growing demand for AI-powered coding assistance and developer productivity tools.
The company further announced that remote SSH support and hooks are now generally available across all subscription plans.
OpenAI has introduced programmatic access tokens for Enterprise and Business users to improve automation and workflow management.
The company said Codex will support HIPAA-compliant use for eligible ChatGPT Enterprise workspaces, helping healthcare and enterprise users manage sensitive data securely.
OpenAI will soon add support for connecting the ChatGPT mobile app to Codex on Windows systems, expanding cross-platform compatibility and strengthening AI-powered coding tools for developers and businesses.
