C-DOT, Synergy Quantum To Build Tool To Spot Quantum-Vulnerable Cryptography

The Department of Telecommunications’ (DoT) R&D arm, Centre for Development of Telematics (C-DOT), has signed an agreement with Synergy Quantum India Private Limited to jointly develop an automated tool to detect, classify and report quantum-vulnerable cryptographic algorithms in target devices, the government said on Saturday.

According to an official statement, the agreement seeks to create a system capable of scanning devices to identify cryptographic algorithms and security mechanisms, flag vulnerabilities and distinguish between quantum-safe and quantum-vulnerable algorithms.

The tool will generate a detailed report highlighting quantum-vulnerable algorithms, their purpose and exact location within a device to support informed migration planning towards quantum-safe security.

The proposed solution will comprise three core modules, including a web application for external black-box scanning and network traffic assessment, vulnerability assessment and quantum risk analysis, along with a security scanner agent for scanning libraries.

It will also feature control software to manage installation or removal of the scanning agent, run assessments and aggregate findings into unified reports covering all identified vulnerabilities, the Ministry of Communications said.

Synergy Quantum India Private Limited is described as a deep-tech sovereign quantum security company providing post-quantum cryptography solutions across hardware and software domains.

Boost To Quantum-Ready Security

The collaboration is expected to deliver a fully integrated, commercially deployable solution aimed at transforming how organisations evaluate their cryptographic preparedness for the quantum era.

The statement said the initiative would enable early detection of cryptographic weaknesses across defence, telecommunications, banking and various government sectors, devices and applications, helping organisations proactively transition to post-quantum cryptography.

The ministry said the partnership aligns with the national vision of strengthening indigenous research and innovation under the Atmanirbhar Bharat initiative and enhancing India’s capabilities in emerging and secure telecom technologies.

“As quantum computing advances, traditional cryptographic systems face unprecedented challenges,” said Dr Rajkumar Upadhyay, CEO, C-DOT, adding that combining C-DOT’s telecom and quantum research expertise with Synergy Quantum’s capabilities would address current and future cybersecurity needs.
