Beyond 700 Million: PhonePe Bets Big On India’s Digital Future

Digital payments platform PhonePe has surpassed 700 million registered users as of 29 April 2026, marking a major scale milestone in its growth trajectory.

The company said the figure reflects its widespread adoption across India and the increasing reliance on digital platforms for payments and financial services.

The growth has been attributed to a combination of user trust, an extensive distribution network, and a continued focus on intuitive and dependable digital experiences.

PhonePe’s expansion has accelerated sharply over time. While it took more than four months to acquire its first one million users, the platform is now adding a similar number in under a week.

Between FY23 and FY25, the company recorded a compound annual growth rate of 56.25 per cent, indicating sustained momentum even at a large scale.

The platform has driven its growth by emphasising the development of a secure and seamless financial ecosystem.

By prioritising speed, reliability, and user-focused design, PhonePe has adapted to the needs of a rapidly digitising population.

Commenting on the development, Founder and CEO of PhonePe, Sameer Nigam, stated the milestone reflects strong consumer confidence and the growing role of digital payments in everyday transactions. He further added that the company would continue to focus on creating simple, secure, and widely accessible financial products.

Looking ahead, PhonePe plans to broaden its offerings further and deepen its role in India’s evolving digital infrastructure, with an emphasis on developing large-scale platforms tailored to diverse user needs.
