Apple Shifts Focus To Macs With M5 Chip Amid iPhone 17 Launch

Apple may have just unveiled the iPhone 17 series, but the company is already turning its attention to Macs. Sources told Bloomberg that Apple’s first MacBook Pro equipped with the new M5 processor, internally identified as J714 and J716, is nearing mass production.

Alongside these high-end laptops, Apple is developing refreshed MacBook Air models (J813 and J815) and two new external displays (J427 and J527).

Apple could unveil the devices by late 2025 or in the first quarter of 2026, depending on production schedules.

M5 Chip Marks Next Leap in Apple Silicon

The M5 chip marks a significant milestone in Apple’s transition away from Intel processors. Since 2020, each generation of Apple’s proprietary chips has improved speed and energy efficiency.

With the M5, the company aims to deliver further performance gains, keeping Macs competitive against the latest Windows laptops powered by Intel, AMD, and Qualcomm processors.

Apple’s Mac refresh coincides with a pivotal moment for its artificial intelligence strategy.

The company introduced the Apple Intelligence platform last year, promising deep AI integration across iPhones, iPads, and Macs. Critics noted it lacked the conversational depth of rivals like ChatGPT or Gemini.

To address this, Apple plans a major Siri revamp, internally referred to as Project Linwood, which is expected around March 2026.

The upgraded voice assistant will handle web searches, leverage on-device data, and allow full iPhone control via voice commands.

Apple employees are currently testing these features through an internal chatbot app called Veritas, with no public launch planned yet.

Minor Scratches on iPhone 17 Pro Demo Units

Meanwhile, Apple clarified concerns over minor scratches noticed on iPhone 17 Pro demo units in Apple Stores. The company confirmed that MagSafe charging stands caused the marks, not a design flaw, and instructed employees to clean demo devices more frequently to prevent confusion.

With the upcoming MacBook Pro featuring the M5 chip, AI upgrades, and a refreshed iPad lineup, Apple’s 2025–26 product slate promises to keep consumers and tech enthusiasts eagerly watching.
