PM Modi Compares India’s Asia Cup Win To ‘Operation Sindoor’; Tweet Breaks Social Media Records

PM Narendra Modi praised the Indian cricket team for their thrilling performance in the Men’s T20 Asia Cup 2025 final. His tweet after the win has been retweeted more than 107,000 times and has garnered 25 million impressions, reflecting the nation’s excitement.

Posting on X, PM Modi described the victory as “#OperationSindoor on the games field. Outcome is the same – India wins! Congrats to our cricketers.”

The tweet drew parallels with India’s recent armed operations, highlighting the nation’s determination and spirit across all fields.

India’s Chase of 147 Sees Early Setbacks

Chasing a modest target of 147, India suffered early setbacks, slipping to 20/3 after losing Abhishek Sharma, Suryakumar Yadav, and Shubman Gill cheaply. The situation looked challenging, but a composed and masterful innings by Tilak Varma turned the game around.

Varma remained unbeaten on 69 off 51 balls, hitting three fours and four sixes. He rebuilt the innings with Sanju Samson, who scored 24, forming a 57-run partnership.

Varma then added 60 runs with Shivam Dube (33), guiding India across the line. Rinku Singh sealed the chase with a stylish boundary, completing a memorable win.

India’s spinners dominated the match and dismantled Pakistan’s strong start. Kuldeep Yadav, after conceding 23 runs in his first two overs, returned brilliantly to claim 4/30, including three crucial wickets in the 17th over.

Axar Patel and Varun Chakravarthy took two wickets each, while Jasprit Bumrah picked up two wickets at the death. Pakistan, who started at 113/1, collapsed to 146 in 19.1 overs, losing nine wickets for 33 runs.

Early contributions from Sahibzada Farhan (57) and Fakhar Zaman could not withstand India’s tight bowling and tactical fielding.

The PM’s tweet amplified national pride, with fans and followers flooding social media with congratulations. Analysts noted that the engagement numbers underline cricket’s immense popularity in India and the symbolic resonance of the win at a time of national achievements.
