In a riveting encounter at the M Chinnaswamy Stadium on Sunday evening, RCB showcased their dominance yet again in the IPL 2024. The team secured their fifth consecutive victory with a convincing 47-run win over Delhi Capitals (DC).
Opting to bat first after winning the toss, Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB) posted a competitive total of 187/9 on the back of notable contributions from Rajat Patidar, Will Jacks, and Cameron Green.
Patidar’s gritty half-century, complemented by Jacks’ 41 and Green’s 32, provided the necessary impetus to RCB’s innings.
However, it was Yash Dayal’s stellar performance with the ball that proved to be the turning point of the match.
The left-arm fast-bowler wreaked havoc on a two-paced pitch, claiming impressive figures of 3-20 to dismantle DC’s batting lineup.
DC’s chase got off to a rocky start as they lost wickets at regular intervals, courtesy of Dayal’s fiery spell.
Despite a valiant effort from stand-in captain Axar Patel, who notched a gritty 57 off 39 deliveries, DC faltered in their pursuit of the target.
RCB’s disciplined bowling was led by Dayal and supported by Lockie Ferguson and Mohammed Siraj. Together, they kept the pressure on DC throughout the innings.
Eventually, DC succumbed to the mounting run-rate, managing only 140 runs before being bowled out in 19.1 overs.
With this victory, RCB finds themselves in a strong position in the points table. The team tied with DC on 12 points but held a higher position due to a superior net run rate.
On the other hand, DC’s campaign in the IPL faces a setback as they slip to sixth place with a negative net run rate.
The match saw thrilling moments, with Axar Patel hitting boundaries and DC’s lower order showing resilience.
However, RCB’s relentless pursuit of success prevailed in the end. It delighted their loyal fans with another remarkable performance in IPL 2024.
