In an electrifying Women’s Premier League match at Bengaluru’s M Chinnaswamy Stadium, the Royal Challengers Bangalore delivered a breathtaking display of batting prowess against the UP Warriorz. Led by skipper Smriti Mandhana and star all-rounder Ellyse Perry, RCB posted a commanding total of 198 for three in their allotted 20 overs.
In a strategic move to break a two-match losing streak, RCB elevated S Meghana to the opening slot, a decision that proved to be fruitful. Meghana, alongside Mandhana, set the tone with a brisk partnership of 51 runs in just 5.3 overs, providing a solid foundation for the team. RCB’s Power Play tally of 57 for 1 marked their best start in WPL 2.
Mandhana, displaying exquisite timing and shot selection, showcased her dominance against the UP bowlers, particularly targeting off-spinner Chamari Athapathuthu and left-arm pacer Anjali Sarvani. Her partnership with Perry, accumulating 95 runs off 64 balls, further consolidated RCB’s position as the hosts piled on the pressure.
Despite Mandhana’s dismissal after a blistering innings, Perry continued the onslaught, hammering left-arm spinner Rajeshwari Gayakwad for two consecutive sixes. A notable highlight was Perry’s powerful strike that shattered a display car’s window, underscoring the ferocity of RCB’s assault.

In response, the Warriorz struggled to mount a significant chase, with captain Alyssa Healy’s fifty being a lone standout performance amidst a lackluster effort. The innings culminated at 175/8, falling short of the formidable target set by RCB.
Adding to Warriorz’s woes, Vrinda Dinesh was ruled out of the remainder of the WPL due to a shoulder injury sustained during a previous match. As a replacement, the UP side secured the services of wicket-keeper batter Uma Chetry, a seasoned player with recent experience representing India A, reinforcing their lineup for the challenges ahead.
