Gujarat Giants (GG) defeated Delhi Capitals (DCW) by 11 runs on Thursday in the Women’s Premier League (WPL 2023) for their second tournament victory. Delhi chose to field first after winning the toss here. Based on Laura Wolvaardt’s (57) and Ashley Gardner’s excellent fifty, the Giants team set a target of 148 runs ahead of Delhi. However, the Delhi team lost by 11 runs after being run out for 136 runs.
Gujarat Giants scored 147 runs for four wickets while batting first. The Delhi team’s reply saw them dismissed for 136 runs in 18.4 overs. Delhi has now lost twice in its last five games.
Wulfrat scored 57 runs for Gujarat in 45 balls, including six fours and a six. Gardner hit nine fours for a perfect 51 out of 33 attempts. They collaborated for a significant total of 81 runs for the third wicket. In addition, Harleen Deol ran 33 balls and scored 31 runs. Jess Johnson took two wickets for 38 runs for Delhi.
Marijan Kapp, one of only four Delhi batsmen to reach double digits, scored the most runs with 36. Arundhati Reddy forced Gujarat’s hand at one point by scoring 25 runs in 19 balls in the final over. In addition, Gardner bowled brilliantly, taking two wickets for 19 runs. Tanuja Kanwar and Kim Garth each took two wickets in addition to him.
Although Delhi had a manageable target, they made things tough for themselves by losing wickets frequently despite sustaining the run rate. In the first 10 overs, Delhi scored 78 runs but also lost four wickets.
Tanuja Kanwar took the wicket of Shefali Verma, who scored just eight runs before being bowled (2/29). Before being caught leg before by Sneh Rana, skipper Meg Lanning scored 18 runs. Ellis Capse struck Gardner with two consecutive sixes, but due to a runout, her inning was also limited to 22 runs.
After allowing just one run to score, Jemima Rodrigues returned to the pavilion. While Kapp held one end, the opposing team kept losing wickets. In the fourteenth over, Kapp was also run out for the seventh wicket. Kapp hit four fours and a six in his 29-ball inning.

The GG still has two games left, against Royal Challengers Bangalore and UP Warrior, respectively. The Capitals also have two games left, against the Mumbai Indians and the UP Warriors, respectively.
In terms of the points table, GG is in fourth place, while the Capitals are in second place after losing by 11 runs.
