Riyan Parag in action for Rajasthan Royals in IPL 2024
In a remarkable display of batting prowess, Riyan Parag propelled Rajasthan Royals to a formidable total of 185 for 5 against Delhi Capitals in their Indian Premier League encounter on Thursday. Parag’s stunning unbeaten knock of 84 runs off just 45 balls proved pivotal in steering his team to a competitive score.
The young batsman’s innings was highlighted by an array of impressive strokes, including seven fours and six sixes. Particularly memorable was the final over onslaught against veteran South African pacer Anrich Nortje, from which Parag amassed 25 runs with a flurry of boundaries and maximums.
Parag’s heroic effort came after Rajasthan Royals encountered a shaky start, but he found able partners in Ravichandran Ashwin (29) and Dhruv Jurel (20). Together, they stitched crucial partnerships of 54 and 52 runs respectively, stabilizing the innings after early setbacks.
Although Royals captain Sanju Samson threatened to replicate his previous explosive innings, he fell for 15 runs after a promising start. Samson’s departure left Rajasthan Royals at 30 for 2, further compounded by the loss of Yashasvi Jaiswal (5) to Mukesh Kumar.
Wrist spinner Kuldeep Yadav added to Rajasthan’s woes by dismissing Jos Buttler, with a successful review overturning a leg before wicket decision. However, Ashwin’s brisk cameo and Parag’s spectacular innings propelled Rajasthan past the 100-run mark by the halfway stage.
Parag continued to dominate the proceedings, notching up his maiden fifty of the IPL with flair. He showcased his aggressive intent by dispatching deliveries from both Kuldeep and Mukesh Kumar to the boundary ropes with ease.
Despite the dismissal of Jurel, Parag unleashed a barrage of boundaries to entertain the home crowd at the Sawai Man Singh Stadium, ensuring Rajasthan Royals posted a formidable total against Delhi Capitals.
